Job Summary

Collaborate with the Lead Teacher in managing a non-categorical self-contained classroom for high-level special needs students, implementing prescribed care plans and assisting with adaptive daily living skills like toileting, feeding, and positioning. Provide physical and academic support during instruction while maintaining student safety and modeling positive behavior through Functional Communication and Behavior Protocols. Regularly collect data to track progress in curriculum, IEP, and ADLS areas, and work with speech, PT, OT, and ELL staff to address individual needs. Assist students in incorporating into the academic environment and contribute to a culture that nurtures emotional, cognitive, and social abilities. Adhere to the 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. work day, attend weekly PLC meetings, and participate in summer professional development.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Passed the ParaPro Exam
  • AA or 60 credits hours
  • BA or MA
  • Certified Nursing Assistant credential (CNA)
  • Coursework in health services
  • Ability to work in a 10 month position

Desired Qualifications

  • ABA or VB experience
  • Experience working in special education
  • Experience working with individuals with physical and health care needs
  • Child Development Associates credential
  • Coursework in early childhood education
  • Coursework in human development
  • Prior work or volunteer experience with children or students with special needs
