Job Summary
Assist the Mate/Captain with vessel start-up and shutdown, raising and lowering passenger loading ramps, and securing vessels to docks in all weather conditions. Perform daily inspections of onboard safety equipment, conduct pre-and post-trip checklists including full maintenance, and collect fares while calculating daily cash and credit sales. Ensure safe onboarding and off-boarding of passengers and materials, respond to passenger queries, and participate in safety drills such as man-overboard scenarios. Maintain Transport Canada safety requirements and attend staff meetings as required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- At least 1 year of experience as a Deckhand or in a similar role
- Basic knowledge of minor vessel maintenance
- Marine Emergency Duties Certificate
- Basic First Aid Certificate
- Energetic
- Professional and courteous demeanor
- Punctual
- Regular attendance
- Excellent organizational skills
- Good mathematical skills
- Ability to operate within Transport Canada Guidelines
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
- Adjustable and flexible to meet changing work needs and demands
- Commitment to embodying a personal addiction-free lifestyle
- Current Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Valid driver's license
