Job Summary
Dean of Special Education responsible for ensuring FAPE compliance and overseeing services for students with disabilities. Key duties include supervising IEP development and revisions, serving as designee for IEP meetings, monitoring progress and fidelity of specialized programs, coordinating services for students transferring between Virginia schools, maintaining data in the Virginia IEP System, providing professional learning to staff, monitoring instruction through observations and data analysis, and participating in Designee/Dean meetings and required trainings. Requires Master’s degree, three years of successful special education experience, and eligibility for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with Special Education endorsement (Administration and Supervision preferred). Strong leadership, communication, and knowledge of state/federal regulations governing students with disabilities are essential.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree from an accredited College or University
- Has a minimum of three (3) years of successful experience in special education
- Holds or is eligible for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement Special Education; endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12 preferred
- Possesses leadership qualities and communication skills
- Knowledge of State and Federal Regulations Governing Students with Disabilities
- Knowledge of specialized instruction and school-wide systems for inclusive practices
- Experience implementing and analyzing evidence-based behavior interventions and supports
