Job Summary
Dean of Libraries & University Librarian at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) overseeing VCU Libraries, including Cabell Library, Health Sciences Library, and the MCV Health and Wellness Library, with global collaboration through VCUarts Qatar. Provides strategic leadership to transform scholarship, learning, creative expression, and clinical care through inclusive teaching, collections, and leadership; stewarding budgets and facilities; recruiting and developing faculty and staff; and advocating for the Libraries’ mission. Leads initiatives across teaching and research support, digital scholarship, data planning, open education, and partnerships with VCU Health, academic units, and external collaborators. Guides advancement of a strategic vision aligned with VCU’s Strategic Framework 2028 and One VCU, and fosters collaboration, fundraising, and community engagement while promoting student success and interdisciplinary work.
Required Qualifications
- Earned terminal or post-graduate degree in library/information science or closely related field
- Administrative leadership experience in an academic or research library
- Experience in planning, budgeting, team building, problem-solving, and project management
- Ability to articulate the Libraries’ vision, goals, accomplishments, and needs to constituents
- Demonstrated ability to foster engagement with the Libraries through building community/university collaboration and partnerships
- Commitment to developing and promoting quality research support and scholarly communication
- Experience with fundraising and external resource development
- Experience working with global partners
- Experience contributing to strategic leadership and governance within an academic library
- Ability to lead collaborative leadership and cross-disciplinary programs
- Experience aligning unit goals with organizational vision
- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Commitment to open education and affordable course content
- Experience in health sciences libraries or interdisciplinary health partnerships
- Knowledge of data services, digital scholarship, and scholarly publishing
