Job Summary
Dean of Students provides leadership over student discipline and attendance within a Middle School, collaborating with a district leadership team to establish and enforce procedural due process, attendance and discipline policies, and MTSS-supported interventions; responsible for communicating procedures to students, staff, and parents, developing and revising handbooks annually, and supervising non-teaching personnel while coordinating co-curricular/extracurricular activities and long-term projects with the principal and assistant principal.
Required Qualifications
- Must hold valid teaching license/certificate
- Valid administrative license or certificate, or evidence of the completion of administrative licensure toward administrative licensure preferred
- Proven experience in successful student discipline strategies, improving school culture, and working through challenging situations
- Demonstrated experience in communicating and problem solving with students, parents, staff and community members
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities
- Must have full support of Building Principal(s), Director of Elementary or Secondary Education, Assistant Superintendent(s) and Superintendent
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA) including Leadership Skills, prompt response to referrals, record keeping, ongoing communication, MTSS collaboration, planning and organization, understanding of statutory parameters and truancy regulations (Ohio Revised Code)
- Exhibit a drive and passion for excellence and continual learning/professional growth
- Demonstrate technological literacy with intermediate or higher proficiency level
- Exhibit initiative, drive, and perseverance to complete responsibilities as assigned
- Knowledge of and ability to implement conflict resolution strategies
- May involve indoor work environment and ability to meet deadlines with potential interaction with the public
