Job Summary

Act as a communicator and sighted guide for individuals with combined hearing and vision loss, providing access to information and facilitating interaction with their environment. Assist with daily tasks, transport and accompany clients to assignments and appointments, and provide support regarding assistive devices. This permanent, full-time unionized role requires a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for frequent local and occasional out-of-town travel. Working Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the candidate will serve the Kingston/Belleville area. Canadian Hearing Services is the industry-leading provider of services enabling Deaf and hard of hearing Canadians to overcome barriers.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma in Deafblind services or equivalent, e.g. studies in humanities or community (e.g. Social Work, Gerontology)
  • three to five years' experience working with individuals who are deafblind
  • Formal training in ASL
  • Bilingualism (French/English)
  • LSQ training
  • alternative communication skills such as Two Hand Manual, Braille
  • A valid driver's license
  • access to a vehicle
  • legally eligible for employment in Canada
  • Vaccines (COVID and others)

Desired Qualifications

  • studies in humanities or community (e.g. Social Work, Gerontology)
  • Formal training in ASL would be an asset
  • Bilingualism (French/English) as well as LSQ training and alternative communication skills such as Two Hand Manual, Braille would be preferred
