Job Summary
Assist Deaf education teacher in providing for the physical and instructional needs of students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing in a Special Education and General Education setting. Assist in implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs. Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher. Collaborate with the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays; adapt to each student's needs; assist with administrative records and reports; assist with transferring and positioning students, feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene; supervise students in various settings including lunchroom, bus, and playground; help supervise substitute teachers; participate in staff development and meetings; maintain confidentiality and support assessment and motor-skill activities as directed by the teacher. Skills include collaboration, effective communication, knowledge of Deaf Community and ASL, and ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- Texas Educational Aide Certificate
