Job Summary
Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to support individuals with disabilities in the community. Responsibilities include providing supervision and training to persons served to facilitate social wellbeing, health, and safety in the least restrictive environment; administering medications per procedures upon successful state-required certifications; assisting with transportation or access to community resources; planning and implementing daily activities to promote social inclusion and build social capital; documenting supports and progress; attending mandated events, workshops, trainings, investigations, and meetings; ensuring responsible use of personal and agency resources; and performing other related job duties. Knowledge and abilities include understanding community resources, following SJCS policies, representing the organization to the public, coordinating with diverse staff and individuals, knowledge of meal assistance and safety practices, and proficiency with relevant computer systems and office machines. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, one+ years of experience with persons with disabilities, health certificate, and valid driver’s license with good driving record; background checks as required by SJCS and funding authorities.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- One or more years related experience working with persons with disabilities (required)
- Must meet SJCS and funding jurisdiction current requirements for criminal background/records check
- Valid health certificate to meet current funding jurisdiction requirements
- Valid state-issued driver’s license with current driving record in good standing (preferred)
- Knowledge of community resources that lead to social inclusion and autonomy of persons served
- Ability to act as a representative of St. John’s Community Services to the public
- Ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with other staff members and individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Knowledge of acceptable meal assistance and safety practices and procedures
- Skilled in the operation of relevant computer systems, including hardware and software, and office machines
