Job Summary
Provide subject matter expertise and oversee pre-transportation activities to ensure proper preparation and compliance of hazmat shipments for domestic and export transportation, including bill of lading preparation, placarding, labeling, export documentation, and packaging; supervise inspections of hazmat shipments and air shipments; audit carrier waivers for same-day shipments to prevent airfreight hazmat; audit export shipments for compliant documentation and packaging; assist in certification and training of DC staff in hazmat requirements; perform daily slotting audits to ensure hazmat is stored correctly; assist in hazardous disposal process; active member of the DC Spill Control Team; respond to hazmat and export inquiries; and be willing to fill in for other DC roles (Inbound/Outbound) as needed. The role is based at Grainger's distribution center in Salt Lake City, UT and requires a High School diploma or equivalent and formal hazmat shipping training; compensation is hourly with a shift schedule of Monday–Friday 9:30 am–6:00 pm.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Trained in the proper shipping of export and hazardous materials, including packaging, loading, unloading, storage, spill response and preparing shipping documentation (Bills of Lading)
- Knowledgeable of Grainger’s Hazardous Materials Policy
- Interpersonal and communication skills to negotiate and motivate others within the process
- Provide signature acknowledgement of Grainger’s Hazardous Materials Policy
- Systems and personal computer literacy to help identify and resolve problems
- Quality assurance coordinator experience (similar) or above
