Job Summary
Data Center Commissioning Engineer (Mechanical) leads mechanical commissioning for large-scale, mission-critical data center projects across Canada. From design through post-construction, you manage QA/QC programs, ensure systems meet high performance standards, supervise field activities (site visits, startup witnessing, testing), coordinate with GC/subcontractors/AHJ, and document deliverables into site manuals. You will oversee liquid cooling infrastructure and high-density racks in hyperscale/colocation facilities, use QA/QC software (BIM360, CxAlloy, Facility Grid), and mentor the commissioning team to ensure timely, compliant project delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of mechanical engineering and/or field-testing experience with at least 5 years in commissioning and/or QA/QC for data center projects (25+MW)
- Mid-Level: minimum 5 years with at least 3 years in commissioning and/or QA/QC for data center projects (25+MW)
- Documented experience as Mechanical and Controls 3rd party Commissioning Engineer on greenfield data center projects
- Commissioning Professional Certification from a recognized industry authority
- Expertise in testing oil-fuel systems, chillers (air and water cooled), CRACs/CRAHs/AHUs, and BMS/BAS
- Strong proficiency in MS Project, Smartsheet, Word, Excel
- Willingness to travel up to 50% to client sites across Canada
- Accredited engineering or technology degree (or equivalent industry experience)
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng/PE) or PMP designation (preferred)
- Master Mechanical License (preferred)
- Experience with liquid cooling and high-density rack infrastructure in hyperscale/colocation data centers
- Experience in consultancy or owner-organization environments
- Ability to coordinate multiple project schedules and deliver status reports
Desired Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng/PE) or PMP desirable
- Accredited engineering/technology degree or equivalent
- Experience with data center commissioning and QA/QC
- Strong MS Project/Smartsheet/Excel skills
- Willingness to travel up to 50% to client sites across Canada
