Databricks Platform Architect - Unity Catalog Enablement

Job Summary
Databricks Platform Architect responsible for defining and shaping a unified, scalable governance-enabled data platform using Databricks Unity Catalog for a banking environment. Responsibilities include end-to-end architecture, self-service platform enablement, Unity Catalog governance (catalog hierarchies, fine-grained access controls, and cross-environment lineage), metadata management, RBAC/ABAC, data masking, and cost/manageability through observability and FinOps. Lead API design (REST/GraphQL) for secure data access, guide Lakehouse-aligned data modeling, ETL/ELT design (Spark, PySpark, SQL), and ensure interoperability with enterprise systems. Mentor engineers and architects, collaborate with risk/compliance, and promote clear design patterns and documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 8+ years in data architecture or platform engineering
- Deep hands-on knowledge of Databricks, Delta Lake, Apache Spark, and Lakehouse principles
- Unity Catalog mastery: demonstrated success architecting and operationalizing Databricks Unity Catalog for enterprise governance, metadata management, and access control
- Programming in Python (PySpark) and SQL; experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- API architecture experience (REST, GraphQL, OpenAPI) and applying security and observability best practices
- Governance knowledge: data governance frameworks, data quality management, regulatory compliance
- Soft skills: outstanding communication and influence across executive, technical, and risk audiences
