Job Summary
Database Engineer III needed for San Diego corporate office to maintain scalable, high-availability production databases. Responsibilities include maintaining production environments, monitoring and diagnosing issues, performance and index tuning, building automation tools, collaborating with development teams for database design, upgrades and migrations, incident management, capacity benchmarking, ensuring data integrity, security and privacy, and providing 24x7 on-call support. Requires strong MySQL experience, Azure/cloud familiarity, Linux, scripting (Go/Python/Shell), and a proactive problem-solving mindset. Familiarity with AI tools and frameworks (e.g., Claude Code, ChatGPT, LangChain, LlamaIndex) and experience applying AI to database operations is expected.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent technical discipline
- MySQL specific database experience
- Experience using Azure or any other cloud provider
- Solid understanding of distributed/replicated database topologies
- Systematic problem-solving approach
- Track record monitoring and analyzing system performance
- Good understanding of Linux system
- Proficient in more than one scripting language (golang/python/shell, etc.)
- Ability to remain calm in crises
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- AI Competency Requirements (Junior MySQL Operations Engineer) familiarity with AI tools and frameworks
- Experience with AI application frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex
- Experience with vector databases (e.g., Qdrant, pgvector)
