Job Summary

Administer, monitor, and optimize Azure SQL Managed Instances and SQL Server on Azure IaaS, focusing on performance tuning, backup validation, and high availability. Troubleshoot database health, connectivity, replication, and storage issues while implementing indexing, query tuning, and capacity management for high-volume transactional workloads. Manage Azure Data Factory pipelines, Elastic Jobs, and Change Data Capture (CDC), configuring failover groups and disaster recovery operations. Execute planned maintenance, schema changes, and deployments through established change control, maintaining SOPs and contributing to DR runbooks. Engage directly with customers during incidents and change requests, ensuring accurate documentation and weekly timesheet submissions. Participate in rotating on-call rotations for after-hours support and attend to technical escalations. This role requires a dedicated home office with up to 10% travel and involves working within a managed services environment supporting complex production databases.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent hands-on experience
  • 3–5 years of experience supporting Microsoft SQL database environments
  • at least 2–3 years administering production SQL workloads in Microsoft Azure
  • Experience supporting both Azure SQL Managed Instances and SQL Server deployed on Azure IaaS virtual machines
  • Strong knowledge of Backup and restore strategies
  • Strong knowledge of High availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR)
  • Strong knowledge of Performance tuning and optimization
  • Experience supporting large or complex database environments with high transaction volumes and replication/synchronization workloads
  • Microsoft Azure SQL administration and troubleshooting, including Azure SQL Managed Instances and SQL Server running on Azure IaaS virtual machines
  • Azure SQL failover groups and high availability/disaster recovery (HA/DR) configurations
  • Experience supporting Azure data platform services, including Azure Data Factory, Elastic Jobs, Azure Analytics Services, SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, and CDC
  • Performance tuning and capacity planning for high-volume transactional databases
  • Experience with version control tools such as Git, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms
  • Strong documentation and change control discipline
  • Ability to travel up to 10% annually
  • Participation in a rotating on-call schedule for after-hours and holiday support
  • Ability to meet utilization targets established by leadership
  • Must successfully pass a CJIS background check upon hire and annually thereafter
  • One or more database-related certifications, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
  • ITIL v3+ certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)

Desired Qualifications

  • Managed services experience is preferred
  • Familiarity with IT Glue, Autotask, ServiceNow, and other documentation platforms
  • Experience with automation or scripting related to database operations
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines or database deployment automation
