Job Summary
Administer, maintain, and support enterprise-scale database environments, implementing high availability and disaster recovery solutions including clustering and availability groups. Manage backups, restores, upgrades, and patching while monitoring performance to identify optimization opportunities. Troubleshoot issues through root cause analysis, optimize queries and indexes, and develop data replication and movement solutions. Automate routine tasks using scripting tools and ensure security, compliance, and governance standards are maintained. Create operational documentation, collaborate with development and infrastructure teams, and provide guidance to junior members. Participate in incident management and after-hours support as required. This role offers 5-8+ years of SQL Server experience within medium to large enterprise environments, based in Pretoria or Durban.
Required Qualifications
- 5-8+ years of Database Administration experience within medium to large enterprise environments
- Relevant degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
- Strong hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments
- Solid understanding of database architecture, performance tuning, and optimisation techniques
- Experience supporting high availability and disaster recovery solutions
- Knowledge of replication technologies, database backup and recovery strategies, and maintenance planning
- Experience with scripting and automation tools such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash
- Understanding of database security, auditing, compliance, and governance practices
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- A proactive and collaborative approach with a strong focus on continuous improvement

Desired Qualifications
- Exposure to cloud platforms and modern infrastructure environments
- Experience with technologies such as ClickHouse, FoundationDB, Valkey, LGTM Stack (Loki, Grafana, Tempo, Mimir), or similar observability and database technologies
