Database Administrator (DBA)

Job Summary
Design and implement physical database structures while administering and maintaining DBMS environments across on-premises and cloud-based platforms. Perform database optimization, performance tuning, and capacity planning to ensure reliability and security. Manage installations, migrations, and upgrades, and implement comprehensive backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies. Monitor database policies, enforce standards, and troubleshoot complex issues to support integration across systems. Contribute to cloud migration initiatives and hybrid environments using Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL. Requires 10+ years of experience, strong PL/SQL skills, and familiarity with Azure and OCI. 10-month contract in Toronto, ON.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in database administration, including design, implementation, and support
- Hands-on experience with DBMS installation, configuration, migration, and upgrades
- Strong expertise in performance tuning, optimization, and capacity planning
- Experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes
- Experience with database technologies including Oracle (12c+), SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
- Experience with RAC, GoldenGate, and Data Guard technologies
- Knowledge of database security, access management, and data integrity controls
- Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change, Configuration Management)
- Strong experience with PL/SQL and developing ETL procedures and packages
- Experience with query optimization techniques and information retrieval tools (TOAD, OEM, DB Artisan)
- Experience working in large, multi-tenant environments
- Experience with cloud and on-prem technologies (Azure, OCI)
- Experience across operating systems such as Linux, Unix, and Windows
- Familiarity with scripting/programming languages (Python, Shell)
- Knowledge of networking and communication protocols relevant to databases
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to document designs, processes, and procedures effectively
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and work in a team environment
