Job Summary
Design, implement, and optimise enterprise database environments while developing standards and procedures for scalability and performance. Monitor systems for bottlenecks, execute migrations and upgrades, and manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuity. Contribute to solution architecture by designing database structures, evaluating new technologies, and supporting cloud, hybrid, and on-premises deployments. Define security frameworks, control access, and maintain compliance with governance and audit requirements. Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams, provide technical leadership, and mentor junior administrators. Maintain operational documentation and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- NQF Level 6 qualification in one of the following: Information Technology, Software Development, Computer Science, or Related IT discipline
- 5–8+ years' experience in database administration within enterprise environments
- Proven experience with database design, optimisation, and management
- Experience in system architecture design and implementation
- Strong experience with SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar enterprise database platforms
- Experience supporting High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) environments
- Advanced SQL and database performance tuning
- Database design and data modelling
- Database administration across multiple platforms
- High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions
- Backup, replication, clustering, and failover technologies
- Database security and governance
- System architecture design and implementation
- Scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash, or equivalent)
