Job Summary

Data Software Engineer at The Workshop responsible for designing, building and maintaining the data platform services that orchestrate ingestion, transformation and data-quality capabilities as a service. You will develop ingestion and connector-based integrations using Kafka and Kafka Connect, orchestrate distributed processing engines (Spark, Flink or Beam) behind clean service APIs, implement monitoring and alerting, and investigate production issues to improve reliability and throughput. You will work within an agile team across the full SDLC, follow DevOps practices, and apply responsible use of AI-assisted engineering tools, while ensuring code quality, security and maintainability. The role emphasizes production-ready software, observability, testing, and collaboration with product owners and engineers to continuously improve the data platform and resolve operational challenges.

Required Qualifications

  • Solid software-engineering fundamentals
  • Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)
  • Back-end development experience in Java and/or Python
  • Experience with data ingestion using Kafka and Kafka Connect
  • Hands-on experience with stream/batch processing technologies (e.g., Apache Spark, Flink or Beam)
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases
  • Understanding of data modeling and data architecture concepts
  • Agile development approach and CI/CD mindset
  • Commitment to quality through unit and integration testing
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience defining and monitoring data quality standards, metrics and KPIs.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker and ArgoCD.
  • Knowledge of Apache Iceberg.
  • Knowledge of Exasol.
  • Scripting languages such as Shell scripting.
  • Experience building platform or "as-a-service" capabilities for other engineering teams.
