Job Summary
Compile and organize large spatial and temporal datasets for evaluating management effects on fish and shellfish populations in PNW environments. Conduct literature reviews to extract data on ecological outcomes and stressors, then collect fish and environmental data in freshwater, estuarine, and nearshore marine settings, including driving vehicles, boats, or trailers. Lead data processing and visualization, sharing compiled data, workflow protocols, and research products to enable team interaction. Write reports, contribute to journal manuscripts, and present results at regional meetings and scientific conferences. Maintain reproducible workflows documented in code repositories and deliver interactive data dashbacks backed by those repositories.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college/university with a major related to the task order, with emphasis in fisheries, ecology, natural sciences, mathematics, statistics, oceanography, or hydrology
- Three (3) or more years of relevant experience, including familiarity with the species and habitats managed by NOAA Fisheries in the West Coast region
- Valid U.S. driver's license - required and maintained throughout the period of performance
- Public trust suitability; background investigation cleared prior to beginning performance
- Government-required training to be completed within 5 business days of start: NOAA IT Security, NOAA Safety, Sexual Assault/Sexual Harassment Prevention & Response (NAM 1330-52.222-70(b)(6)), and Records Management 101
- Strong quantitative skills including familiarity with modeling and data analysis; familiarity with software such as R, GitHub, etc.
- Excellent verbal and written communication; experience writing reports and publishing peer-reviewed articles
- Familiarity with common workplace software such as Google Suite and Microsoft Office
- Ability to manage workload, stay organized, and produce high-quality work efficiently; able to work independently and on interdisciplinary teams
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a related field - may substitute for two (MS) or four (PhD) years of experience
