Job Summary
Founding Data Product Engineer at Effective AI, responsible for designing and building the data layer that enables the company to turn external data sources (new filings, regulations, bureau circulars, external data feeds) into signals used by agents and product surfaces. Role blends hard data engineering, agent-oriented work, and product sense, owning the path from raw source to actionable automation. You'll work on real-time search over large datasets, and contribute to production multi-agent runtimes with audit trails and scalable architectures. Requires a strong CS background, comfort with ambiguous problems, and a bias toward building first-pass, scalable systems that can evolve with the product.
Required Qualifications
- Strong computer science foundation and a track record of shipping systems that handle scale, ambiguity, messy data, product constraints, reliability, or organizational complexity
- Ability to turn unclear problems into crisp models, make simplifying assumptions, and build first versions that can evolve
- Experience leveraging agents for research, extraction, validation, testing, and operational workflows, and a focus on building the harness around them
- Willingness to operate without a playbook and iterate quickly to production-ready solutions
- Comfort with working on foundational systems early in a startup environment
- Demonstrated capability to design and implement data-to-agent-to-product surface pipelines
- Strong problem-solving skills and a pragmatic approach to engineering trade-offs
- Passion for building trustworthy systems with source-level auditability
- Location-based requirement: in-office presence in San Francisco, CA
