Job Summary
Data Lead - AI and Automation responsible for designing, delivering, and supporting Data, AI, and automation solutions across Smiths Group. Owns the roadmap for trusted data foundations (master/reference data, data quality, governance, cataloguing, traceability, access controls) and provides technical and business leadership across data architecture, integration, visualization, and emerging AI technologies. Roles include hands-on development of AI/ML/automation solutions, coaching and mentoring D&A team members, and collaborating with business stakeholders to enable adoption through documentation, training, and user support. Requires a degree-level education, hands-on experience with ML/DL/NLP/CV, proficiency in Python/Java/R, experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch, Azure Databricks/Data Lake, BI tools, SQL, and Big Data technologies; strong problem-solving and communication skills; experience with onshore/offshore delivery models and cloud/on-prem data services.
Required Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Experience with machine learning, deep learning, NLP, and computer vision
- Proficiency in Python, Java, and R
- Strong knowledge of AI frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch
- Experience in Data Science techniques and methodologies
- Azure Datatalake, Databricks, Python (Azure Reference architecture)
- Experience in BI tools (PowerBi, OBIEE, Tableau, QlickView etc)
- Good knowledge of SQL
- Knowledge of Big Data technologies (Hadoop, Spark)
- Able to create rich visualisations
- Experience with on-premise and public cloud data services
- ERP experience (nice to have)
- Excellent communication skills
- Team leadership and mentorship
- Data governance, data quality, and data security
