Job Summary
Data Governance Lead at Hippo (Austin/Dallas, Hybrid) leads the formation of a data governance program from the ground up, partnering with data engineers and reporting to the Head of Data Foundations & Governance. Responsibilities include defining a governance strategy to protect customers and enable confident data use, building ownership models, data standards, classification, quality, retention, and embedding governance into pipelines through code and metadata requirements. You will drive data quality and reliability across the organization, create a data product model for well-governed datasets, and lay groundwork for responsible use of AI and analytics. Must-haves include 6–10 years in data governance or related discipline with leadership experience, strong command of governance domains, ability to implement governance in code, and hands-on experience with modern data platforms and catalog/observability tooling; insurance or regulated industry experience is a plus. Required Qualifications
- 6–10 years in data governance, data management, or closely adjacent discipline, with experience leading or building a program
- Strong command of core governance domains: data quality, metadata management, lineage, classification, access control, and data lifecycle
- Ability to express and enforce governance standards in code — schema contracts, pipeline quality rules, metadata requirements
- Hands-on experience with modern data platforms and catalog or observability tooling (e.g. Secoda, Monte Carlo, Alation, Ataccama, or similar)
- Insurance or regulated industry experience a plus; familiarity with CCPA, state DOI requirements, or similar compliance frameworks is valued
