Job Summary
Greet and check in patients, answer phones, and collect co-pays and insurance payments in a fast-paced clinical front office. Process paperwork, verify insurance eligibility and benefits, create price estimates, and identify outstanding balances from previous visits. Gather clinical information, process referrals, and pre-authorize according to plan requirements. Train new staff using checklists and respond to inquiries about routine and sensitive topics with compassion. Generate and analyze patient data reports, perform registration quality checks, and conduct census audits. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of registration requirements for admitting, OP, ED, maternity, and rehabilitation units. Provide Q&A day-to-day support while standing for long periods using a mobile workstation. Flu vaccination is required.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- 3+ years of customer service experience such as hospital, office setting, customer service setting, or phone support
- Ability to work onsite at 175 Fore River Parkway, Portland, ME 04102
- Ability to work 8 or 10-hour shifts per business need, between the hours of 7:00am - 5:00pm
- Ability to occasionally work weekends and on-call, per business need

Desired Qualifications
- 1+ years of experience as a medical receptionist
- Experience with Microsoft Office products
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
- Understanding of insurance policies and procedures
- Ability to perform basic mathematics for financial payments
- Experience in requesting and processing financial payments
- Experience in insurance reimbursement and financial verification
- Experience in a Hospital Patient Registration Department, Physician office or any medical setting
- Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
