Data Engineering Manager

Job Summary
Lead a team of data engineers to own end-to-end delivery of data pipelines, transformations, platform components, production operations, and engineering practices to meet regulatory requirements. Set and enforce standards for coding, testing, CI/CD, code review, and documentation; optimize cost and performance of data infrastructure; manage technical debt and partner with Data Product Managers and the Principal Data Modeller on data model standards. This hands-on leadership role operates in a regulated financial services environment, focusing on reliability, observability, auditable processes, and governance. Requires 8+ years in data/software engineering with 2–3 years of people management and hands-on experience with Snowflake/BigQuery/Redshift, Airflow or Dagster, and dbt. Hybrid working from Bristol with a UK head office, and a three-stage interview process including technical questions and a scenario task.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years in data engineering or software engineering
- 2–3 years in people management
- production data platforms and pipelines at scale
- operational mindset: reliability, monitoring, incident response, cost management
- hands-on with modern cloud data platforms (e.g. Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift)
- experience with orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow, Dagster), CI/CD, and automated deployment
- experience in a regulated environment (financial services, insurance, or banking)
- experience operating within a data product or platform operating model
