Job Summary
Data Engineer role in VicRoads’ Data Engineering & Platforms team focused on designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, secure data pipelines powering analytics and insights for government services. Responsibilities include delivering well-governed data, collaborating with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders, translating data requirements into technical solutions, and applying best-practice data engineering standards. The position emphasizes building reliable data assets, data governance and security, CI/CD practices, and contributing to reusable components while aligning with VicRoads’ data platform strategy. Location is Melbourne/Victoria with work-from-home options.
Required Qualifications
- 3–4+ years’ experience building and maintaining data pipelines using modern data stack tools (e.g. Databricks, Spark, dbt, Kafka)
- Strong proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (e.g. Python)
- hands-on experience in distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark
- Experience working with cloud-based data platforms (e.g. Databricks, AWS Redshift)
- Solid understanding of data modelling, ETL/ELT processes, data integration, orchestration, automation, and data warehousing
- Experience applying CI/CD practices to build resilient, high-quality data pipelines
- Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and security best practices
- Australian citizenship
- Baseline security clearance upon commencement
