Data Engineer

Job Summary

Design and maintain data pipelines, ETL processes, and reporting solutions using Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS, Python, and Oracle databases. Optimize database performance, develop stored procedures, and integrate data from diverse internal and external systems for energy trading and risk management platforms. Build dashboards with Power BI and Tableau, automate workflows via the Power Platform, and ensure data quality through cleansing and validation. Document technical processes and support agile initiatives while communicating complex technical concepts to stakeholders. This hands-on consulting role supports the energy management team's focus on data warehousing and ETRM systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Expert-level experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, query optimization, performance tuning, stored procedures, and ETL development using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
  • Strong experience developing and maintaining reporting solutions using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) or comparable enterprise reporting platforms
  • Hands-on experience working with Oracle databases, including data extraction, integration, performance analysis, and SQL development
  • Proficiency in Python development, with a focus on data engineering, ETL processes, API integrations, automation, and data transformation workflows
  • Strong understanding of Python data analysis and processing libraries, including Pandas, NumPy, and related frameworks used for large-scale data manipulation and analytics
  • Experience designing, building, and supporting data pipelines that integrate data from multiple internal and external systems
  • Working knowledge of business intelligence and data visualization tools such as Power BI and/or Tableau, including dashboard development, reporting, and data storytelling
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps and Power Automate, to support workflow automation, business process improvement, and low-code application development
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and best practices for data governance, data quality, and metadata management
  • Ability to assess, cleanse, validate, and integrate large datasets from diverse sources
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with full professional proficiency in English and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions
  • Ability to work effectively in an agile environment, adapt to changing business requirements, and support multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Experience creating, maintaining, and improving technical documentation, data dictionaries, process documentation, and operational procedures
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS or related discipline/experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with time-series data, market data, pricing models, forecasting models, or financial and commodity trading datasets preferred
  • Experience supporting Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) platforms and an understanding of energy market operations, trading processes, scheduling, settlements, or risk management is highly desirable
