Data Engineer

$46,800–$60,000 year

RemoteRotterdam, South Holland, The Netherlands

Full TimeSmall

Job Summary

Build and maintain end-to-end Azure data pipelines ingesting source data into the Data Lake and Azure SQL, orchestrated with Azure Data Factory. Develop warehouse layers from raw staging through Data Vault and Business Vault into dimensional Data Marts using T-SQL, including writing and optimizing stored procedures for full, incremental, and delete loads. Model data correctly by designing hubs, links, satellites, and conformed facts, while investigating source systems to ensure models reflect actual data meaning. Deliver in Power BI by building datasets, semantic models, and reports rather than consuming existing dashboards. Own data quality by validating, monitoring, and debugging broken pipelines or database projects, and wear the analyst hat to profile datasets and reconcile numbers before they reach the business. Apply for an intro call, complete a short case study, and attend deep dive and cultural fit interviews.

Required Qualifications

  • ~5+ years hands-on, across data engineering and database development
  • T-SQL
  • Azure (Data Factory, Data Lake Storage Gen2, Azure SQL)
  • Power BI
  • Git
  • Data Vault and dimensional modelling
  • Real relational-database depth: you model in 3NF, read an execution plan, tune a slow query, and work confidently in the Data Vault layer beneath the mart, not just the semantic layer on top
  • Excellent T-SQL: especially stored procedures for transformation and loading
  • Hands-on Azure data engineering: you've built end-to-end pipelines with ADF, Data Lake Gen2 and Azure SQL
  • You build in Power BI, not just consume it: datasets/semantic models, relationships, DAX, reports
  • A reliability habit: data quality validated and monitored as part of the work, Git as a default, and the confidence to trace a broken pipeline/proc/DB project to root cause and fix it calmly
  • Communication: fully comfortable in English to collaborate with clients and a remote team
  • Must be able to attend every quarterly company meeting in the Netherlands or abroad

Desired Qualifications

  • Nice to have: experience with Data Vault 2.0 specifically (hubs, links, satellites, hash keys)
  • exposure to a semantic-layer tool such as Dremio
  • background in operational / logistics / industrial domains (e.g. ports, terminals, maintenance/CMMS, IoT-style event data)
