Job Summary
Senior data engineer to design, build, and maintain data pipelines in Python on AWS; own data warehouse architecture and steer toward a cleaner, centralised warehouse or lakehouse; streamline release flow and ensure data is available to analysts and the business; implement transformation tooling with dbt and ensure code is version-controlled and auditable; enable accessible, secure, and compliant data access for engineers, analysts, and product teams; contribute to data security and compliance posture (ISO 27001, GDPR); help define long-term data platform strategy as the team grows; collaborate with analytics, engineering, and product teams, and work in a small team making architectural decisions; healthcare/regulatory context with emphasis on data governance and quality; flexible working with a commitment to work-life balance.
Required Qualifications
- Solid experience as a data engineer or backend engineer working on production data systems
- Strong SQL and strong Python for data work, including with large or distributed datasets
- Experience designing and operating data pipelines in production – ingestion, transformation, orchestration
- Experience with cloud data platforms, ideally AWS
- Hands-on experience choosing and standing up a warehouse or lakehouse (e.g., Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or comparable)
- Familiarity with dbt and orchestration tooling such as Airflow, Dagster, Step Functions, or equivalent
- Infrastructure-as-code experience (e.g., Terraform/CloudFormation/CDK)
- Experience working in fast-growing teams and making architectural decisions
- Clear communication with engineers, analysts, and clinical/operational stakeholders
- Nice to Have: Healthcare or regulated industries experience; data governance at scale; startup data engineering experience; data quality/observability/platform engineering
