Job Summary
Conduct installations, troubleshooting, and documentation for internal and external customers within the data center. Perform Layer 1 cable testing, terminate cabling with various connectors, and manage tape backups and offsite transfers. Monitor critical systems using the Building Monitoring System and execute racking, stacking, and labeling projects. Isolate issues with colocation clients, follow global policies, and escalate events to the appropriate teams. Handle physical security, cleanliness of raised floors, and shipping/receiving duties. Lifting up to 50 pounds and working with ladders and hand tools is required. Shifts vary based on site coverage, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with on-call and overtime as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of operational and technical experience in an IT environment
- 2 to 3 years' experience with the installation, testing and terminating of copper, fiber (multi & single mode) and coaxial cable
- Working knowledge of all OSI layers, TCP/IP model and associated protocols such as DNS
- Highly effective at troubleshooting Layer 1-3 issues (physical, data link and network layers)
- Thorough understanding of TIA/EIA-568 and IEEE 802.3 Ethernet fundamentals
- UNIX/Windows operating system navigation, general commands and system programs/processes knowledge and experience
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Strong team player
- Must be available for shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Must be able to lift hardware equipment up to and in excess of 50 pounds
- Must be able to work with ladders and various hand tools
- Must be able to stand, bend and kneel as needed
- Must be able to perform physical security including monitoring and controlling access to the Data Center
- Must be able to maintain cleanliness and appearance of raised floor
- Must be able to perform shipping and receiving duties
- Must be able to work onsite in Fort Worth, TX
