Job Summary
Data Center Engineering Design Manager in Kansas City, MO leads design of Critical Power and HVAC/Mechanical systems for new and expanding data centers. Responsible for directing electrical and mechanical engineering design, energy modeling, equipment selection (Generators, UPS, switchgear), and integration with architectural principles. Manages design team, coordinates with trades and stakeholders, leads client meetings, and ensures operability and maintainability. Drives design standards, peer reviews, and after-action improvements; supports commissioning and turnover, and provides SME input on maintenance and operations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or similar engineering degree
- Licensed PE / EIT a Plus
- Experience as Consulting Engineer or similar
- Experience with hyperscale or colo data center design
- Experience managing an engineering design team
- Experience with Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, BIM a plus
- Experience with Electrical Systems (UPS, Generators, Switchgear, Batteries)
- Experience with Mechanical Systems (HVAC, CFD, Boilers, Chillers, Pumps, CRAC/CRAH, AHUs)
- Operational handover of mission-critical facilities
- Root-cause analysis on complex failure scenarios
- Design standards and guidelines development
- Field observations during construction
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint
