Job Summary
Oversee the lifecycle of physical servers, network devices, and IT infrastructure components by performing installation, configuration, and upkeep across various colocation facilities. Plan rack layouts, cabling schemes, and patching schedules to optimize operations, while diagnosing hardware issues and coordinating vendor repairs for timely resolution. Manage incoming and outgoing shipments, maintain accurate hardware inventory, and develop comprehensive documentation of physical infrastructure and cabling layouts. Build strong relationships with hardware vendors, colocation partners, and remote hands teams to ensure efficient operations. This role requires a willingness to work outside regular business hours, evenings, and weekends, with travel to facilities and a valid driver's license.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in data center engineering
- Strong understanding and basic troubleshooting of server hardware, network devices, and datastorage systems
- Knowledge of network cabling, fiber optics, and optical transceivers
- Experience with fiber and optic testing
- Basic knowledge of Linux operating systems and networking protocols
- Proven experience in racking, cabling, and working with data center facilities management tools (power, cooling, etc.)
- Ability to safely lift and move equipment weighing up to 60 pounds
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required
- A valid driver's license is required for travel between facilities
- This role does require travel to colocation facilities in the area
Desired Qualifications
- CCNA certification is a plus
- Familiarity with basic scripting in Bash and Python within a Linux environment is a plus
