Job Summary
The Data Center Engineer III is responsible for designing data center collocations, infrastructure hardware, and providing technical consultations. This role includes creating detailed installation procedures for various transport and switching equipment and collaborating with Network Engineers for technical support. Responsibilities also extend to deploying and configuring large-scale networks, managing project timelines, asset management of networking gear, and creating necessary documentation including floor plans and statements of work for vendors. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree and extensive experience in data center practices, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S/B.A) from four-year college or university
- 5 to 8 years related experience and/or training
- Networks with senior internal and external personnel in area of expertise
- Good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for solutions
- Understanding of data center practices, including cable routing and calculating power usage
- Familiarity with creating As-Built drawings for Datacenter POPs
- Knowledge of how to build/create SOWs for new POP builds
- Understanding of field-based work in POPs, carrier hotels, or Central Office environments
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Familiarity with details of service providers and colocation facilities
Desired Qualifications
- Understanding of fiber-optic technology including cable types, connector types, optical types, patch panels and optical transport technologies
- Excellent communication skills for interaction with carriers/vendors
- Ability to work within a global team in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision
- Strong attention to detail with excellent time management and organization skills
