DAR (Disaster Assessment and Recovery) Program Specialist, Disaster District 11

Job Summary
Lead educational outreach and damage assessments for individual, business, and community emergency preparedness, wildfire mitigation, and resiliency across multiple Texas counties. Coordinate emergency animal sheltering, inventory local VOAD/COAD resources, and establish animal supply point operations to support state and federal response efforts. Conduct site inspections for Public Assistance Program Projects and disaster recovery housing, while deploying as a surge force to disaster theaters for response and recovery operations. Maintain daily contact with local elected officials and county Extension Agent Liaisons during recovery, requiring overnight travel that may last several days or weeks.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline
- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database applications
- Technical competence in appropriate subject matter and the ability to apply this knowledge to the solution of problems
- Understanding of the learning and development processes of youth and adults
- Knowledge of a variety of teaching methods to provide effective learning experiences
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds
- Must live within 50 miles of the assigned place of duty
- Is willing to deploy to disaster areas for an undetermined amount of time in support of state or federal operations
- Is willing to work and travel nights and weekends
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in agriculture, emergency management, community/urban planning, education or related discipline
- Bi-Lingual (Spanish)
- Completion of Incident Command Systems Courses 100, 200, 300 and 400; and National Incident Management Systems Courses 700 and 800
- Current CDL License
