Job Summary
Research Scientist – Real-Time Data Processing & Algorithm Development (f/m/d) at the German Centre for Astrophysics (DZA), a three-year fixed-term appointment under WissZeitVG. Design and implement advanced algorithms for real-time data extraction and analysis, develop scalable pipelines for processing very large data streams, contribute to detection/classification of astrophysical signals, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, optimize workflows for distributed and parallel computing, contribute to publications and international collaborations, and participate in scientific meetings and activities. Remuneration according to TVöD Bund (E 13), with flexible hours and potential extension to a permanent position; hybrid work arrangement in Görlitz, Germany.
Required Qualifications
- Completed Master’s and PhD in astronomy, physics, computer science, engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following areas: Data science or large-scale data analytics; (Radio) astronomy or astrophysical data processing; Machine learning / artificial intelligence; Real-time computing systems; Parallel or high-performance computing
- Strong programming skills (e.g. Python, C/C++, or similar)
- Experience working with large, complex datasets
- Ability to conduct independent research in an international and interdisciplinary environment
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent English communication skills (spoken and written)
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented research environment
