Job Summary

Assist in the repair and maintenance of water and wastewater mains, service lines, fire hydrants, water meters, valves, manholes, and service lines. Perform manual labor for repairing water and wastewater lines, check engines, generators, pumps, settling tanks, filters, and chemical feed systems, and monitor housekeeping duties to ensure a safe working environment. Provide assistance to technicians and crew leaders, establish effective working relationships with the public, and participate in special projects. May train and mentor new employees, investigate issues as a first responder, and maintain confidentiality while interacting with citizens and staff. Adhere to safety procedures and work in indoor and outdoor environments, including emergency situations requiring delivery and restoration of vital services.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • one year of experience in maintenance and repair operations
  • Ability to obtain a Distribution D License
  • Ability to obtain a Collections I License
  • valid Texas Driver's License

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of City organization, operations, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of Wastewater treatment principles, methods and practices
  • Knowledge of Methods, techniques and equipment used in wastewater treatment
  • Knowledge of Local, state and federal laws, codes, regulations and permits affecting wastewater treatment operations
  • Knowledge of Recordkeeping and reporting procedures
  • Knowledge of Safety rules and regulations
  • Skill in Handling situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, firmness and sound judgment
  • Skill in Understanding and applying City policies and procedures
  • Skill in Compiling data; maintaining records and files; and preparing clear and concise reports
  • Skill in Providing efficient customer service
  • Skill in Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with all levels within the City
  • Skill in Communicating effectively verbally and in writing
  • Knowledge of Business and personal computers, and spreadsheet software applications
