Job Summary

Receive Cytology samples and perform processing for high-complexity analysis as defined by CLIA '88 in an accurate and timely manner with supervision. Execute all aspects of non-gyn specimen preparation while assisting the department with compliance for accrediting agencies like CLIA, JCAHO, CAP, and OSHA. Perform essential functions of a Testing Level II employee, including instrumentation maintenance and adhering to standard precautions for blood and body fluid exposure. Work evening shifts in Tempe, Arizona, reporting directly to a department supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Successfully completed military training of 50 or more weeks and served as a medical laboratory specialist
  • Associate's degree in any field with 20 hours of chemistry and/or biological sciences credits
  • 20 hours of chemistry and/or biological sciences credit with three (3) year's working in a clinical laboratory
  • Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach and stretch frequently
  • May be required to use material handling equipment to push/and or pull up to 75 pounds
  • Required to lift, push and/or pull up to 25 pounds
  • Must use standard precautions due to the threat of exposure to blood and body fluids
  • Able to communicate effectively and comprehend written and oral instructions
  • Requires significant use of computer, phone and general office equipment
  • Able to perform instrumentation maintenance to include adequate ability to grasp and handle objects
  • Needs visual acuity and ability to adequately distinguish colors
  • Demonstrates highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in basic computer skills
  • Demonstrates excellent problem-solving skill
  • High level of self-motivation
  • Must exhibit personal maturity and responsibility
  • Good reading, writing and math abilities
  • Communicates effectively in oral and written formats sufficient to demonstrate comprehension
  • Able to perform detailed work and to work with frequent interruptions in a stressful environment
  • Able to multi-task, problem solve and memorize
  • Able to take direction and assimilate instructions quickly
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biological Sciences, or related field
  • Applicable laboratory experience
  • Additional related education and/or experience
