Job Summary
Perform complex clinical laboratory tests on specimens for cytogenetic and FISH testing, including specimen setup, accessioning, harvesting, slide preparation, staining, and microscopic analysis. Execute karyotyping and FISH hybridization while detecting subtle abnormalities and managing high-volume work with appropriate speed. Images cells for karyotyping, prepares analysis sheets, and documents results clearly. Informs supervisors promptly of abnormal findings or protocol issues. Participates in technical development, continuing education, and trains new employees on established procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a program registered by the NYS Department of Education
- Bachelor's degree in the major of biology, chemistry or physical sciences from an accredited college or university
- at least five (5) years of experience in a similar laboratory
- NYS technologist license from the Office of the Professions, State Education Department, State of New York
- ASCP Certification
- Effective oral, written, communication and interpersonal skills
- Master's Degree
- NCA/ASCP certification
- Working knowledge of related theory, principles, practices, applicable instrumentation, analytical methods, quality control, statistical analysis, current government regulations and leadership
- Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
