Job Summary
Cybersecurity Consultant for Kent ISD responsible for driving regional cybersecurity maturity, guiding districts in implementing CIS Critical Security Controls, facilitating tabletop exercises, and maximizing state/federal/consortium funding. Approximately 75% external advisory work for constituent districts and 25% internal governance support, including grant compliance and state-level cybersecurity task forces. Requires collaboration with districts to implement security frameworks, incident response planning, training, and programmatic oversight of regional grant programs. Travel to partner districts within Michigan; strong emphasis on translating complex cybersecurity and fiscal grant requirements into actionable insights for leadership; ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver effective security training across educational staff.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in information security, risk management, or IT auditing within an enterprise or public sector setting
- Proven experience identifying, writing, or managing technology-focused grants, or coordinating cooperative public procurement purchasing systems
- Prior experience working within an educational (K-12 or Higher Ed) environment is strongly preferred
- Technical & Financial Knowledge: familiarity with CIS Controls, NIST CSF, FERPA
- Understanding of educational funding mechanisms, including E-Rate guidelines
- Experience creating, planning, and executing incident response tabletop simulations or crisis drill frameworks
- Excellent interpersonal, consulting, and presentation skills; ability to translate technical vulnerabilities and grant requirements into actionable risks
- Ability to travel to partner districts across the State
- Maintain data confidentiality and FERPA compliance
- Regular and consistent attendance
- Adhere to cybersecurity safeguards and protocols
