Job Summary

Cybersecurity Consultant drives regional cybersecurity maturity and guides risk management for Kent ISD and partner districts. Acts as an external advisor (about 75%) to implement CIS Critical Security Controls, facilitate tabletop exercises, and maximize state, federal, and consortium funding; internally (about 25%) supports the Lead Cybersecurity Engineer with governance, grant compliance, and participation in state-level educational cybersecurity task forces. Responsibilities include partnering with districts to implement security frameworks, conducting self-evaluations and risk assessments, developing Incident Response plans, designing tabletop exercises, providing incident response support, identifying funding opportunities (state/federal grants, purchasing consortia, E‐Rate resources), balancing security with K-12 operations, delivering security training, overseeing grant programs, modernizing governance practices, ensuring FERPA compliance, and collaborating with internal teams while traveling to partner districts. The role requires travel across the State, strong communication, and the ability to translate technical risks into actionable business guidance, with after-hours support as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, or CISA) desirable
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in information security, risk management, or IT auditing
  • Proven experience identifying, writing, or managing technology-focused grants, or coordinating cooperative public procurement purchasing systems
  • Prior experience in educational (K-12 or Higher Ed) environment preferred
  • Technical & Financial Knowledge including CIS Controls, NIST CSF, FERPA
  • Knowledge of E-Rate guidelines and grant compliance standards
  • Experience creating, planning, and executing incident response tabletop simulations
  • Strong interpersonal, consulting, and presentation skills
  • Ability to travel to partner districts across the State
