Job Summary
As an Early Learning Assistant at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario, you’ll be a key part of a dynamic team that supports children’s development through play-based learning and meaningful relationships. You’ll provide attentive supervision to ensure children’s health, safety and well-being; plan and deliver engaging educational programming using YMCA curricula (Playing to Learn, A Place to Connect, Zen-er-gy, Healthy Childhood Development); track children’s development and share updates with families and partners; conduct daily safety checks and maintain a clean, organized, and inclusive environment; perform administrative duties, attend team meetings, and participate in ongoing professional development; and collaborate with supervisors to support program goals. The role requires Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent, at least two years of experience with children, current First Aid/CPR, knowledge of the Child Care & Early Years Act, and a satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening. The position is full-time at the Markstay location with hours of 40 per week and includes benefits and the potential Wage Enhancement Grant for qualifying roles within licensed child care.
Required Qualifications
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of two (2) years working with children and/or youth
- Current Standard First Aid with Infant and Child CPR (Level C) *Recognized by the WSIB
- Knowledge of Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Certification in YMCA Playing to Learn and Healthy Child Development is an asset
- Health Assessment from Medical Professional and Immunizations Record
- Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (dated within the last 6 months)
