Job Summary
Own leather yield and cut quality for the entire plant by laying out and nesting dies on hides to maximize parts per unit, while inspecting incoming material for grain defects and rejecting off-spec leather. Set up, adjust, and change dies on the clicker press, maintaining inventory and sharpening rotation, then bundle and ticket cut parts by size and lot for staging to Fitting. Train and cross-train cutters while enforcing machine guarding and lockout/tagout protocols. Requires five or more years of cutting experience in footwear operations, ability to read cutting tickets and production schedules, and full shift standing on the production floor with occasional lifting up to 40 pounds. Performance is measured against standard yield percentages and downstream rejection rates.
Required Qualifications
- Five or more years cutting leather in a footwear or leather goods operation
- Able to nest dies for yield, not just for speed
- Able to read a cutting ticket, a size run and a production schedule
- Able to train another operator to full rate
- Standing for the full shift on a concrete floor
- Occasional lifting up to 40 pounds
- Frequent lifting up to 20 pounds
- Hearing protection
- Eye protection
- Steel-toe footwear
