Customs Classification Specialist

Job Summary
Responsible for the accurate assignment and maintenance of global tariff codes (HS/HTS/HTSUS) and export codes (Schedule B, ECCN) across the ExxonMobil product catalog, including purchased and produced material. Ensure compliant classification for use on all import/export declarations. Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, Procurement, and Logistics to gather product details; maintain controlled classification data linked to SKUs, BOMs, and lifecycle changes; conduct periodic internal audits and remediate discrepancies; support valuation, origin determination, and FTA eligibility when classification impacts duty rates. Integrate classification data with SAP/GTS and maintain audit-ready classification records with references and rationale; communicate findings across cross-functional teams and support ongoing governance of classification processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3–5+ years of hands-on customs classification experience (import/export)
- Strong knowledge of HS/HTSUS, WCO GRIs, section/chapter notes, explanatory notes; familiarity with Schedule B and ECCN (EAR)
- Experience collaborating with customs brokers and using trade compliance software
- Excellent analytical and documentation skills; ability to interpret technical specs and BOMs
- Clear, audit-ready writing and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail; teamwork across regional and functional boundaries
- Ability to design procedures and drive continuous improvement
- Risk anticipation and audit readiness
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
