Job Summary
Answer basic directional, research, and technical questions from library customers while staffing service desks. Provide research assistance using databases and electronic books, troubleshoot computers, and manage printer paper. Maintain a clean environment by performing hourly counts and ensuring study spaces remain clutter-free. Respond to emails and phone calls promptly, alerting supervisors to schedule changes. Adhere to professional dress codes and Liberty University policies while representing the institution to customers and staff. Work 12-18 hours per week, including mornings and special events, in a climate-controlled setting.
Required Qualifications
- Current student in good academic standing
- Federal Work Study approved
- Grade point average of 3.0 or above
- One year of college education
- Previous customer service experience
- Second language proficiency
- Some knowledge of the Library of Congress classification and call number system
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Ability to understand, speak, and write English
- Public communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Computer and scheduling skills
- Problem solving ability
- Physical and sensory abilities to travel to local and campus locations
- Ability to sit to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard
- Ability to hear and speak
- Ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs
- Ability to handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop
- Ability to regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds
- Willingness to work mornings and occasional special events
