Job Summary
Customer Service Assistant in the Ohio State University Surplus Department provides administrative, customer service and inventory control support using the Surplus Property System (SPS). Responsibilities include DR review/approval, receiving, creation of manifests, inventory labels, and sales/transfer receipts, plus daily KPI, financial, and operational reporting. The role coordinates drivers’ daily pickup routes, assists with cycle counts and asset audits, answers inquiries via phone, email, and online channels (GovDeals and social media), and supports online surplus sales processes including auction listings and related documentation. Works under minimal supervision following established policies to maintain high customer service standards and communicates with departments and the public about sales/events. Requires high school diploma or GED, strong communication and organizational skills, and experience with Excel/Word; warehouse environment with potential physical activity. This position is not sponsorable for work visas. Final candidates may undergo background checks and may be required to complete a drug screen or physical post-offer.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Zero to two (0-2) years of relevant administrative or inventory control experience (preferred)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Organizational abilities
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word preferred
- Experience using computer software for receiving, sales, inventory control, and data tracking/reporting preferred
