Job Summary
Custodian performs general cleaning, sanitation and other custodial activities necessary in the maintenance and upkeep of school facilities. Responsibilities include cleaning and maintenance within school buildings and offices, upkeep of outdoor grounds, operation of cleaning/maintenance equipment, inventory and ordering of janitorial supplies, and collaboration with staff, students, teachers and the public to ensure safe, clean facilities. Duties involve sweeping, mopping, waxing floors, vacuuming, restroom cleaning, furniture movement, grounds upkeep, and operating equipment such as buffers and vacuums; requires physical effort including lifting up to 150 pounds. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 1–2 years of related experience; knowledge of custodial operations and safety practices is essential.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- one to two years of demonstrated aptitude for custodial/general maintenance work; prior custodial/maintenance experience preferred
