Job Summary
Ensure safety of students and staff by sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, waxing floors, emptying waste receptacles, removing cobwebs, and cleaning windows. Polish furniture, clean carpets, wash walls and doors, disinfect water fountains, and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, and hallways. Transport supplies, maintain equipment, report damaged fixtures, and assist with setup and cleanup for school activities. Perform minor repairs including glass replacement, electrical, wood, and metal work, while using hand tools and power equipment. Assist work crews, respond to routine requests, and complete required paperwork.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Must be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, painting
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to use most common hand tools
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
- Effective, active listening skills
- Organizational and problem solving skills
- Flexibility in assignments
- Training in the proper care and storage of chemicals
- Knowledge of basic electrical and plumbing repairs
- Knowledge of appropriate safety procedures
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, written warnings and labels
- Working knowledge of assigned building and alarm systems
- Knowledge of air compressor/thermostats
- Occasional requirement to lift and carry various items up to a maximum of 60 pounds
- Occasional requirement to push and pull up to a maximum of 300 pounds (on wheels)
- Occasional operation of vehicle under inclement weather conditions
- Occasional climbing of ladders and stairs
- Frequent requirement to stand, walk, talk, read, speak, reach, and stretch with hands and arms
- Occasional requirement to walk in excess of 2-3 miles per day
- Occasional requirement to travel
- Complies with all Louisville Board of Education policies and procedures
Desired Qualifications
- One to two years related experience desired
