Job Summary
Conduct daily custodial services and basic maintenance to ensure the upkeep, cleanliness, and safety of school buildings and grounds for students, staff, and community members. Complete required logs, forms, and paperwork; report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards immediately to the supervisor. Perform various building inspections, grounds keeping including leaf collection, snow and ice removal, and walkway clearing. Operate and maintain sweepers, power equipment, and other cleaning tools while unlocking doors, windows, and gates. Clean, sanitize, and disinfect classrooms, restrooms, cafeterias, and common areas; wash windows, whiteboards, and furniture. Maintain indoor and outdoor lighting, collect waste and recycling, and perform minor repairs such as unplugging drains or painting. Assist other custodial personnel and respond to special requests from staff. Submit application materials by August 25, 2026.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR card
- Ability to obtain and hold an Oregon Driver license
- Ability to pass SafeSchools modules and custodial trainings as assigned
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to lift or move up to 100 pounds occasionally
- Ability to work near or with moving mechanical equipment
- Ability to work in high and or tight work places
- Ability to work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, disinfectants, and sprays
- Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints
- Ability to be available for duties on weekends and or evenings as assigned
- Ability to adapt to working around children
- Ability to adapt to working around outside community groups
- Ability to maintain school buildings in a manner acceptable to the general health and safety standards of school buildings
- Ability to develop a basic understanding of Board Policies and Administrative Regulations
- Ability to understand the role and function of public schools in the community
- Ability to understand safe operation of mechanical equipment
- Ability to understand and apply District and school policies and procedures
- Ability to operate, maintain, and make adjustments to various types of equipment, as needed
- Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to maintain appropriate custodial appearance and attire
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work and from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to interact thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, and community members and resolve conflict in a professional manner
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to utilize appropriate grammar and spelling when corresponding
- Ability to make mathematical calculations accurately
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to accurately research various information and prepare related reports
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standard situations
- Ability to understand proper procedures, hand book rules, school schedules (i.e., activity times) and maintain confidentiality with regard to students and staff
- Knowledge of District policies and procedures
- Knowledge of cleaning/sanitation methods and strategies appropriate for public education setting
- Knowledge of the use and operation of various cleaning/sanitation tools, such as manually powered brooms, mops, vacuums, dusting tools, ladders, and snow shovels as well as mechanically powered tools, such as powered waxing/buffing equipment, auto scrubbers, and leaf blowers
- Knowledge of handling, storing, and applying chemical agents
- Knowledge of telephone and record keeping/filing systems
- Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs and their usage
- Knowledge of modern office equipment
- Knowledge of safety and first aid practices and procedures
Desired Qualifications
- Previous Public K-12 custodial experience
