Job Summary
Execute assigned repair and work orders daily, following up to ensure quality completion. Assist with scheduled preventive maintenance on assigned equipment, independently or with contractors, while acting as the Facilities Management construction representative for ongoing projects. Monitor contractor work, conduct quality control, and perform unsupervised or supervised interior and exterior maintenance and repairs. Help maintain Facilities vehicles, keep the maintenance shop organized, and enforce environmental health and safety rules. Support campus events by setting up and breaking down classroom, studio, gallery, and exhibit spaces, moving furniture and trash. Establish professional relationships with faculty and staff, and occasionally serve as the primary point of contact for after-hours emergencies.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Stable work or education history with excellent attendance record
- Some hands-on experience in at least one of the building trades
- Some practical work experience or work towards certification in one of the following specific building trades: plumbing, electrical, HVAC/R, or carpentry
- Basic knowledge of safety requirements
- Basic knowledge of environmental health and safety
- Ability to follow safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals
- Ability to perform basic math
- Ability to read, write, and speak English to understand and communicate written/verbal instructions
- Willingness to learn through job experience and formal training
- Knowledge of and familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and equipment associated with maintenance trades
- Ability to follow directions and work independently or work as part of a team
- Ability to work well and cooperatively with people from different backgrounds
- Ability to solve problems, ask questions, and think through solutions related to building maintenance and repair
- Must work to maintain interior and exterior campus buildings & grounds
Desired Qualifications
- Over 1 year of practical work experience in the building trades
- Work towards certification in one of the building trades
- Basic knowledge of the plumbing, electrical, HVAC/R and carpentry trades
- Experience working in a Facilities Management Department
