Job Summary
Custodian I at a school performs custodial and light groundskeeping tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, stripping, waxing, and buffing floor surfaces; cleaning restrooms and replenishing supplies; cleaning windows, walls, woodwork, blinds and fixtures; dusting desks and furniture; emptying trash and recycling; outdoor cleaning and de-icing; replacing burned-out light bulbs; preparing requisition forms to obtain supplies; may open/secure buildings and arrange furniture for events; may operate janitorial equipment and, as needed, drive a school bus. Requires ability to drive and hold CDL license; physical ability for medium work and the ability to read forms and prepare time sheets. Ability to follow instructions, work independently, establish effective working relationships, and communicate in standard English.
Required Qualifications
- Some experience in custodial work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Must hold or be eligible to obtain a CDL license.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina.
- CDL license holders may be required to drive a school bus as deemed necessary as an essential function.
