Job Summary
Conduct routine cleaning and light maintenance duties to ensure the cleanliness, sanitation, and safety of school buildings and grounds. Sweep, mop, and polish floors; clean restrooms and replenish supplies; empty wastebaskets and remove trash; wash walls, windows, and furniture. Operate custodial equipment including vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, and polishers. Perform seasonal snow and ice removal using hand tools and powered equipment. Lock and unlock doors and windows; move and arrange furniture for events. Report the need for repairs or safety hazards to appropriate personnel. Work is typically performed while the building is occupied, requiring the ability to adjust routines to meet changing circumstances and respond to building user requests.
Required Qualifications
- Some knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, equipment, and procedures
- Ability to assume responsibility for the cleanliness and custodial care of a school building
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to perform a variety of cleaning and custodial duties without close supervision
- Ability to carry and move light loads and to climb ladders
- Ability to operate and properly care for light custodial equipment
- Ability to serve a wide variety of building users courteously and efficiently
