Job Summary
Maintain City buildings and facilities in clean and orderly conditions by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming floors; spot shampooing rugs and carpets; dusting surfaces; washing windows; and collecting trash and recycling. Order janitorial supplies as needed and use commercial equipment such as vacuums and carpet cleaners. Respond to emergency and bio-hazard spills, notify supervisors for facility repairs, and follow all security procedures when locking and unlocking buildings. Adhere to safety rules, state regulations, city policies, and Material Safety Data Sheets for hazardous chemicals.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- one to two years related experience and/or training
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions
- Able to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables
- Valid Driver's License
